Preventive Dental Care in Hasbrouck Heights

Proper dental prevention should include services designed to protect every aspect of your smile. Our team offers many treatments to help keep your smile healthy throughout your lifetime. We use modern technology to diagnose concerns early before they have the chance to jeopardize your oral health and general well-being.

Our preventive dental services include, but are not limited to:

Digital X-Rays & Intraoral Scanners

Our dental x-rays allow us to obtain clear images of your smile. These include pictures of your teeth, gums, jaws, and underlying bone. We use intraoral scanners to get 3D images vital for spotting concerns early and treating them proactively.

We can identify common issues with our use of digital x-rays and intraoral scanners, including tooth decay, infection, and impaction, gum disease, cysts, tumors, abscesses, and more. This early detection is not only crucial for keeping your smile beautiful but also essential for protecting your overall health.

Dental Health Exams

Dr. Bonura examines your smile, discussing his findings with you along the way. Our dentist takes time to educate you about your current oral health and how certain factors and lifestyle habits can impact it. Things such as genetics, smoking, drinking alcohol, diet, oral hygiene, and medication use can all affect your smile.

Our team informs you about the importance of brushing, flossing, and caring for your smile in between dental exams. If we discover concerns such as tooth decay or gum disease, we discuss the next steps and work to create an optimal treatment plan.

What Do You Check During Oral Health Exams?

We examine every tooth, your gums, jaws, and everything in between. You can expect Dr. Bonura to check for the following during your exam:

  • Teeth for signs of decay, infection, or damage
  • Gums for symptoms of inflammation and disease
  • Tongue, cheeks, and other soft tissues for tumors, lesions, and cysts
  • Jaws for biting and chewing capabilities
  • Jaw structure for signs of wear, misalignment, and bone recession
  • Neck for signs of enlarged lymph nodes

Are Dental Cleaning Necessary Every Six Months?

stock

Absolutely! Regular dental cleanings are part of your preventive care. They include our hygienists removing bacterial, plaque, and tartar from teeth and gums – all of which contribute to gum disease. From there, we floss your teeth to catch any remaining particles from hard-to-reach areas.

Our team has you rinse with an approved mouthwash to combat bacteria. We complete your cleaning with polishing so you can leave our office feeling clean and refreshed!

How We Treat Gum Disease

Your treatment depends on your situation and the current stage of gum disease. We address infection at our office through various cleaning techniques. Our hygienists perform scaling and root planning, also known as deep cleanings. Tooth scaling involves removing tartar and plaque from teeth and along and below the gumline. We clean and smooth tooth roots with root scaling to encourage optimal healing and gum re-attachment to teeth.

In its more advanced stages, gum disease is not reversible. Fortunately, we can keep it at bay. Our team performs maintenance cleanings after underdoing gum disease treatment with scaling and root planing. We offer maintenance care to keep your smile healthy and free of possible re-infection. Our team may recommend treatment as early as every three months, depending on your needs.
